Different Ways for Men to Tie a Scarf

Most scarves aren't made for men that don't mean scarves are unique to women. From the Terracotta Warriors of China to some contemporary military units, we see scarves used because of their protection to men in bad weather. Scarves do play an important role in protecting a man's neck. A thick wool scarf can keep your neck warm on a cold morning, or a lightweight scarf can protect your neck from the sun and sand when crossing the desert. Scarves are manly, yet most men are hesitating that how to wear one properly. Here are some tips for men to wear their favorite scarves.

1. The Drape

This is the simplest way to wear a scarf. Just drape the scarf over the neck and put it before your chest in a loose way. Generally no tying happens in this one. It works well if you're wearing a suit or other clothes with a deep V-shaped front.

2. The Ascot Knot

This is another simple way to wear a scarf. Let the middle of the scarf fall on the back of your neck with equal length on both sides. Take both ends of the scarf, and tie them "over-and-under". Adjust both the ends equally facing downwards. This type of knot is great when you're wearing an open jacket or wearing a turtle neck or a high collar jacket.

3. The Twice-Around Ascot

This type is a great choice for when you have a really long and thin scarf and the weather calls for the warmest wrap. Wrap the long scarf twice around your neck. Take the same end and create a knot. This knot is the same as the second except that it goes around the neck twice.

4. The European Loop

This is a fast and easy way to tie and create a large, warm knot right at the collar of a coat or jacket. Fold the scarf in half at the middle and place the folded scarf around the back of your neck with the loop created on one side of the shoulder. Tuck the ends through the loop. Adjust it as needed. This type of knot looks best in cold weather, and it works well with both casual and business outfits.

5. The Fake Knot

The fake knot looks quite elaborate. Hang the scarf around your neck with one end being twice as long as the other. Make a loose knot on one end. Push the other end of the scarf through the knot that you made. Tighten the knot to get a beautiful fake knot. This knot shows up best with a patterned scarf or a scarf with a thicker weave.

6. Tie It at the Back

This is quite a simple tie especially for square scarves. Take a square scarf and fold it into half to make a triangle. Make a simple knot behind your neck and adjust it as needed.

The above are some of the most common ways to tie a scarf, and learning them all will definitely take your outfits and personal style to a high level.
