How to Care for Knitted Scarves

A knitted scarf is a necessity in winter, not only because they can provide warmth, but also for their perfect collocation to heavy and thick coats in winter.

However, when you get a knitted scarf, a gift from your friends or just you buy it for your own, you are possible to cherish it very much. Actually, any knitted items do require delicate care including knitted scarves. But how to wash and preserve these helpful weapons in cold weather is really a consideration. Here are some care instructions for you.

In fact, the type of yarn used to knit will determine the best way to preserve it. If you knit it yourself, you can refer to the yarn's label. If you purchase it in a store, you can ask seller the ways of washing. If it is made of superwash wool, it can be hand or machine washed slowly in cold water. And regular wool must be washed by hand in cold water otherwise it will shrink easily.

First, you need to fill a plastic wash basin with tepid water, and add a capful of laundry detergent made for use carefully. Put the scarf in the water and let soak for a few minutes.

Second, gently agitate the scarf to press the water out. Never wring or scrub. Then fill the wash basin with fresh water again and gently swirl the scarf in the water. Repeat this process until all the water is clear and the scarf is free of suds.

Third, lay it flat on a dry, absorbent towel and roll it up in the towel, pressing firmly when you are rolling. Do not wring the towel.

Forth, place the knitted scarf on the dry towel again and reshape into its original shape. Lay the scarf flat to dry. Do not dry the scarf in direct sunlight, as it can fade colors.

Of course, good preservation is also very important to keep the scarf in shape. If you’re not going to wear your scarf for a long time, please fold it up and place it in a sealed plastic bag to protect it from moths. And never expose your scarf to mothballs which will do no good to your scarf. It is suggested to store your scarves in the closet by hanging them on hooks and organize them by color so that you can pick one at any time when scarf season is coming.

Grey and dull often comes to people's mind when referring to winter, but a practical knitted with fresh color definitely can make your outfit stylish and eye-catching. Right washing ways can keep you scarves from discoloration and ensure them a long life.
